Private native forestry

From April 30, Local Land Services will assume responsibility for licensing and extension services for private native forestry as part of the NSW Government’s commitment to reform the sector.

It brings the management of native forests on private land into alignment with other sustainable land management options available to landholders and completes the one-stop-shop of advice and services provided through Local Land Services

The NSW Environment Protection Authority will maintain responsibility for compliance and enforcement of private native forestry approvals and conditions of the Codes of Practice.

Local Land Services and the NSW Environment Protection Authority are working closely together during the transition period to ensure disruption to landholders will be minimised. Beyond this time the agencies will continue to work cooperatively to ensure consistent advice and interpretation of the requirements for private native forestry.

Enquiries about the private native forestry transition can be directed to a Local Land Services hotline on 1300 778 080.

The PNF team can also be contacted by email (
