Important additions made to the team

Western Local Land Services have recently welcomed a number of new staff members to its team, all of whom are based in the south-west of the Western region.

All three appointments come following a recruitment process, with the positions filled being a Regional Pest Animal Coordinator, Phil Baird (Wentworth), Land Services Officer – Agriculture, Tanisha Shields (Balranald) and District Veterinarian, Trent McCarthy (Buronga).

Mr Baird will be focusing on pest animal management across the Western region, while Ms Shields will be predominantly working on the ground in the Balranald area.

Dr McCarthy is the third District Veterinarian employed by Western Local Land Services, with a vet also based in Broken Hill and Bourke, ensuring landholders are well serviced regarding animal health.

After completing his study at Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga, Dr McCarthy began his career in mixed practice in the Hunter Valley, followed by a locum period around regional NSW. Most recently, he has been practicing at the Southern Highlands Veterinary Centre, prior to moving to the Western region to work for Western Local Land Services.

“I’m really enjoying my time in the Western region and am looking forward to travelling around and working with the landholders,” Dr McCarthy said.

“The on-property visits are obviously a big part of my job but myself and the other vets are always available to provide advice and have discussions around different things whether that be over phone or email.

“We really encourage landholders to get in touch with us as soon as they have an issue or something they want some advice on so I’d encourage all landholders to save our contact details and never hesitate to get in touch.”
