2017 Life and Light photo competition launched

Amateur photographers from far and wide are being encouraged to get snapping in the Western region and enter the 2017 Life and Light photo competition.

Now in its 19th year, the photo competition represents a fantastic opportunity for photographers of all abilities to capture the beauty, diversity and uniqueness of the Western region, the people and flora and fauna that live in it.

The theme for this year’s competition is “healthy landscapes - healthy food”, which ties in with the theme of the Western Landcare forum that will be held in early August.

This year, all photos must be submitted through the Life and Light website, which also has all the information, frequently asked questions, entry rules and more about the competition.

Winner of last year’s people’s choice category for her photo titled “Cobar Sunsets & Working Dogs”, Emma Crameri can’t wait to get her camera out and capture the fantastic imagery that is present in the Western region.

“I think this is a wonderful competition and something I really enjoyed being a part of last year,” Ms Crameri said.

“The Western region is such amazing place and there are so many great places to get photos.

“I’ll definitely be entering a number of photos this year and I’d encourage everyone to do the same.”

Photographers will have a chance to win their part of $3,900 in prize money which will be split across the following categories:

  • open colour
  • secondary colour
  • primary colour
  • open black and white
  • secondary black and white
  • primary black and white
  • digitally enhanced
  • people’s choice (all photographs automatically enter this category).

Entries for the 2017 Life and Light photo competition close on 30 June.

Winners will be announced at the Western Landcare forum dinner in Broken Hill on 4 August 2017.
