Workshop to address another season short of feed
03 June 2015
A workshop in Cobar on 16 June will showcase the funding opportunities and the range of service available in the region to support land managers during the current drought.
The day has been titled "Another season short of feed – this workshop has all the tools you'll need".
Local Land Services Western Region will host the event at Cobar Golf and Bowling Club, highlighting the opportunities available in the upcoming round of incentives funding.
Special guest will be respected speaker Dennis Hoiberg, who has more than 30 years of experience helping people and businesses cope with challenging circumstances.
Dennis will focus on how to make the most of yourself and when to reach out for help in difficult times.
Senior Livestock Officer, Amy Gunn said the workshop was scheduled at the beginning of what many people expected to be a long, dry winter.
"There hasn't been a lot of rain in this part of the state and some land managers are doing things pretty tough, so this workshop is a chance to highlight the wide range of financial and personal support services that is available," Ms Gunn said.
"Drought is a significant challenge, but it also a time when communities can rally together and support each other, so our role is to bring some of these support services to the people who might need them or need to know about them to support friends, family and neighbours."
Other speakers will include:
· Rural Resilience Program, NSW Department of Primary Industries - drought support
· Rural Financial Counselling Service – drought support and rural financial support options
· Interrelate Dubbo - wellbeing support available in western NSW.
A nurse will also be at the workshop to provide free skin cancer checks.
RSVPs for catering to Kerry Johnson at the Cobar office of Local Land Services on 6836 1575.
This workshop has been made available through the support of the Australian Government, The House with no Steps and Interrelate.
