Carbon Farming Information Sessions

Landholders in the Tilpa and Wanaaring areas will have the chance to learn more about carbon farming at information sessions presented by Local Land Services Western Region next week.

The sessions in Tilpa on 10 June and Wanaaring on 11 June will address carbon farming opportunities in the region.

Team Leader - Strategic Land Services Climate Change, Fiona Harris said the sessions would be presented by John Gavin from Remarkable NRM.

"John has extensive experience in Western NSW and an in-depth understanding of the carbon market," Ms Harris said.

"The aim of these sessions is to provide landholders with an update on the Emissions Reduction Fund and current government policy and take a look at the types of projects possible.

"We will also be looking at the current level of carbon farming activity in the Western region, talking about local projects and providing people with information about the different methods being used for carbon farming projects in the local area."

The Emissions Reduction Fund is an Australian Government initiative that allows farmers and other land managers to earn carbon credits by storing carbon in vegetation and soil or by reducing their greenhouse gas emissions through other approved methods. Land managers may then be able to sell those credits to the government through an auction.

The workshops will explain the Emissions Reduction Fund, the auction process, approved methods that can be used in Western NSW and how carbon credits are generated.

Workshop details are:

Tilpa:              Wednesday 10 June, 9am-1pm at Tilpa Hall

Wanaaring:    Thursday 11 June, 9am-1pm at Wanaaring Hall
