Cactus and mesquite forum at Broken Hill

In response to landholder concerns, Local Land Services Western Region will hold a forum in
Broken Hill this month to address the issue of controlling cactus and mesquite.

The forum will be held at The Broken Hill Musicians Club from 9.30am to 3pm on Tuesday 17
February.

Acting Manager Land Services – South, Katrina Gepp said the forum would give customers and
stakeholders the chance to discuss the successes and challenges of past, present and proposed
control projects.

"Cactus and mesquite continue to be an issue for landholders throughout the Broken Hill region,"
Ms Gepp said.

"We have reviewed the data available from the projects that have been completed or are in
place now to control these pest weeds.

"Staff from the Broken Hill area will describe best practice techniques and the challenges in
finding appropriate weed control measures.

"This is a also great opportunity for a group approach that allows input from all interested parties
and takes the pressure off individual landholders tackling these issues on their own."

Morning team and lunch will be provided. To register to attend the forum, please phone the
Broken Hill Biosecurity team on 08 8087 3378 or send an email.
