Last chance to nominate for Western Local Land Services elections

Nominations close on January 31, 2014 and nomination forms can be obtained from

Chair of Western Local Land Services, Tom Hynes, says there are four vacant positions.

"This is a golden opportunity to be involved in building Local Land Services from the ground up," Mr Hynes said.

"I encourage anyone interested in developing the new organisation, which will service local landholders and communities, to nominate for a position on the board," he said.

"Western Local Land Services provides agricultural, plant and animal pest control, biosecurity, emergency management and natural resource management advice and services.

The Western Local Land Services Board will consist of five members who have been appointed by the NSW Minister for Primary Industries, Katrina Hodgkinson, and four members elected by ratepayers.

Current Western Local Land Services members include Ben Barlow, Jim Maynard, Justin McClure and Marie Russell as well as Mr Hynes.

"The Western Local Land Services region is the largest in NSW and we would like to see a wide range of geographical areas and interests represented," Mr Hynes said.

Previous Livestock Health and Pest Authority ratepayers who wish to vote must enrol with Local Land Services.  Enrolments for the 2014 elections close on 17 February.

"For a number of reasons, it was not possible to transfer the previous electoral rolls to Local Land Services so it is essential that people enrol to vote.

"A form has been posted to each previous Livestock Health and Pest Authority ratepayer and can also be downloaded from the Western Local Land Services website.

"Alternatively, call 1300 795 299 and our staff can assist in ensuring you have what you need to make sure your voice is heard in this very important election," Mr Hynes said.
