Free fencing available to help demonstrate design options
Local Land Services Western Region is looking for landholders whose properties front major roads in the Cobar, Bourke, Hillston and Broken Hill areas to take part in a demonstration fencing project.
Four landholders who are willing to clear two kilometres of fence line and host a field day on their properties will receive two kilometres of new fencing, free of charge.
Senior LLS Officer – Livestock, Amy Gunn said the project was aimed at showing the fencing types available to exclude pest animals and help manage grazing.
"We're looking for four demonstration sites along major roads where we can erect high quality fencing to show other landholders the range of designs and fencing options available, as well as the results when we can keep pests out," Ms Gunn said.
"Multi species exclusion fencing is designed to help manage total grazing pressure, maintain groundcover and reduce the impact pest animals can have on productivity.
"We are simply asking landholders to clear a line where we can construct two kilometres of fencing and be willing to host a field day where we can explain the fencing options to other interested landholders."
Expressions of interest are open until 24 November from landholders whose properties front the following roadways:
- Silver City Highway, south of Broken Hill
- Barrier Highway, between Cobar and Broken Hill
- Kidman Way, between Cobar and Bourke
- Kidman Way, between Cobar and Hillston.
A contractor will be engaged by Local Land Services to erect the entire fencing project over the four sites and a single brand of fencing material will be used to maintain consistency and quality.
To be considered, for the project, interested landholders can download the Expression of Interest form at www.western.lls.nsw.gov.au or call their local office for details.
Expressions of interest must be lodged by 5pm on Monday 24 November and fencing must be completed by March 2015.
