Far West Local Community Advisory Group Members Announced
Five community members have been appointed to the Far West Local Community Advisory Group to provide advice to Local Land Services Western Region.
Louise Turner of White Cliffs will chair the group, which covers the Broken Hill, Tibooburra and Wilcannia districts and is one of three newly-formed Local Community Advisory Groups.
At a combined meeting of all three groups at Broken Hill, Mrs Turner said the group was keen to attract one or two more members from the Tibooburra area to ensure they represented all of the far western corner of the Western Local Region.
Members of the group are:
Louise Turner (chair), White Cliffs
Penelope Clarke, Broken Hill
David Sandow, Broken Hill
Garry Hannigan, Broken Hill
Caitlin Myors, Wanaaring
"I believe if we want good things to come out of a community then we firstly have to put time and effort
in," Mrs Turner said. "With Local Land Services still in its infancy, advisory groups will play an important role and the group is enthusiastic about the input it will have to the Western Local Board," she said.
Western Local Board Chairman, Tom Hynes was impressed with the enthusiasm that the 23 group
members from throughout the region brought to the combined meeting.
"The people who have put their hands up to represent the local community have an amazing wealth of
knowledge as land managers, community members and within local industry," he said. "Many have worked in natural resource management roles and they have shown a high level of commitment to sustainable agriculture practices and conservation management.
"The Local Community Advisory Groups have been created to provide input into the development of
plans, projects and services and be a link between the Western Local Board and the community and I
expect they will be an important part of our decision-making process."
Anyone interested in expressing an interest in representing the Tibooburra district on the Far West
Local Community Advisory Group should contact Andrew Hull on 02 6870 8264.
