Thomas Hynes - Chair, Western Local Land Services
Thomas Hynes was appointed local Chair, Western LLS on 3 October 2013.
His various roles have allowed him to gain experience in primary production (rural and mining), natural resource management, legal services; as well as property consultation and valuation, and business administration.
Tom and his extended family have been heavily involved in primary production for a number of generations.
His understanding of the benefits and difficulties of grazing in the western districts has been refined over a long period.
He has also held various managerial positions and gained a firsthand experience of the mining industry during a career working for the Pasminco Broken Hill Mine. These roles have allowed him to develop strong negotiation skills, gain a very good understanding of engineering, finance, and supply management.
While working for the Broken Hill Water Board Tom was able to obtain experience in natural resource management not only in water supply management, water quality, and effluent treatment, reuse and management; but also in mine rehabilitation in compliance to approved plans.
Tom is a qualified lawyer with an excellent understanding of civil litigation, workers compensation, industrial disputation at both state and federal level, contract drafting and analysis, dispute settlement and negotiation, civil liabilities and family law.
He also holds a Bachelor of Commerce and is a qualified Real Estate valuer.
Tom has also held various positions over many years on a large number of local community organisations, including the Far West District Health Board and Lower Murray Darling Catchment Management Authority Board.
